Good Questions: How Do I Connect Two Monitors To My Laptop?

042809_an_two_monitors-laptop.jpgHere's a quickie for you guys. How do I connect two LCD monitors to my laptop when it only has one DVI out? Yes, three monitors may sound like complete overkill, but that's how I like it, k? So how about it?

It sounds like someone has a little LCD addiction. We do hope you'll exercise some caution and wear sunglasses while computing once we give you these very useful tips...

042809_an_ViBookDVI_USB_240x150.jpgTo add an additional monitor to your laptop, all you really need is a USB graphic card dongle (yes, they do exist!) One of our favorites happens to be the ViDock Gfx ExpressCard adapter solution.

The dongle runs you $130 and can support 1680x1050 or 1600x1200 on both Macs and PCs laptops. So, even if you're on the latest MacBook and MacBook Pros and are pissed off that your Mini Displayport needs yet another adapter to work with your older LCD monitors, you can just grab a few of these guys and string along a bunch of these to make up for it.

eVGA UV Plus USB VGA Adapter also offers a similar solution and does about the same thing, but runs you at about half the cost at $60 after rebate. We haven't tried this little guy out ourselves, however, so do proceed with caution.

i use the eVGA UV Plus USB VGA Adapter with my macbook and it works great. 3 monitors definitely isn't over kill especially if you do any kind of programming, or like to watch a movie or tv while you work.

Most corporate line laptops with ATI or Nvidia graphics will do Tri screen from their port replicator. (one DVI, one analog, and laptop LCD) The Brand new Dell port reps have dual DVI.

@emptyapartment - good to see that I'm not the only one who watches TV or a film when working. I did try music but found I got distracted by it. I only watch films I've seen before otherwise I get distracted with that as well.
