Dear Unplggd,
I have a Roku Soundbridge that has recently been displaced by my Apple TV as a means of playing my digital music collection over my home stereo. Instead of letting it collect dust I would like to try and use it in one of the smaller rooms of my house, maybe even the bathroom, but wall mounted with 2 speakers on either side. Since the Roku is usually attached to an amplifier I am wondering if you had any advice on how I could do this.
Thanks for your help!
RTO
Thanks for the Question. For this application you are going to need to find a set of active speakers. A wall mountable 2.0 computer speaker set would be the best solution, but it seems that the 'wall mountable' part is the challenge. These Philips speakers look like they might do the trick or something like the JBL Spot. The only problem with both is that you will have to figure out how to run power cords while still keeping a clean look with the wall mounted Roku.
Does anyone have other speaker suggestions for RTO?
There's a really cool compact speaker by an Italian company called Aux. I have their model 400, and it's amazing. This little box sounds like my Vienna Acoustic towers. They have a new model coming out called the Level and I can't wait to hear it. I can get you in touch with the US rep if you're interested.

A couple possibilities:
1) use a really tiny amp with a set of regular speakers. The Sonic Impact T-Amp is universally well regarded, pretty inexpensive, and tiny.
2) ZVox powered speaker units. They don't mount on the wall, but they'd sit under a Soundbridge and form a compact unit.
3) Polk Atrium outdoor speakers. They're really an indoor/outdoor speaker (perfect for a bathroom) and there's a powered version (Atrium 45p). Atrium speakers are often available on ebay brand new for a fraction of retail cost

Is this the setup you're talking about?

Look into using computer speakers. Most of those come with their own power amp, often built into the subwoofer or the speakers themselves. Bose makes a couple of nice models, as do Cambridge Soundworks and JBL (I love their SoundSticks).
