Dear AT:HT,I placed our TV on the mantle to simulate if it were mounted above our fireplace. It hurt our neck, and we cannot place the facing sofa back any further due to the wall behind it. Any furniture suggestions so that we could put the TV in front of a fireplace? Please help.
Thanks,
Virdi

Our first thought was why not but the TV in the fireplace, if you really aren't going to use it and are pressed for space. But we don't know the dimensions, and all the details so that may not work. In our search for finding a photograph to illustrate your problem, we came across this solution on Flickr. We immediately recognized it as this console table from World Market. Maybe that's a better height?
Anyone else have some words of wisdom?
Thanks for your question!
I've always wondered why people put the TV above the mantle like a framed picture. That would give me horrible neck cramps.
Virdi, is your fireplace setup similar to the top picture? Our fireplace looks like that, and we put our TV on the brick ledge in front of the fireplace. It's a great view angle for us since our couch is low. Our audio system components sit next to the TV on the ledge, and the speakers flank the ledge. This works for us since we never use the fireplace anyway, and the TV is large enough to obstruct the opening so that it doesn't look odd.
Since you were able to place your TV on the mantle, I assume that it's slim enough to sit in front of the fireplace. If you don't have a ledge, you could just buy one of the very low stands (like http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30086969) without legs and place it in front of the fireplace.

Good call on the World Market Console table - that is exactly the piece. The setup was only temporary though as I was just moving in and the tv was still too high for my liking. Not the best photo, but here's the final arrangement with the Benno from IKEA without casters (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50104477) and a bigger tv.

Thank you for the responds.
Our fireplace is like the one with a console table.
Currently we ended up placing the LCD TV right next to the fireplace on a small cabinet. We thought if there is some acceptable furniture that could work together with the fireplace as the background it will look better.
Thanks
