Good Questions: Which Color Task Chair in a Retro Modern Office?

060809_designercrazy.jpgIan writes: I'm pretty stuck in between the leather fabric choices of red and brown for my Humanscale Freedom chair with headrest. My greatest fear is the red being too contemporary lookin' for the laid back retro-modern design I'm trying to pull off with the rest of my furniture. What do you guys think?

060809_humanscale_freedom.jpgThese are the two colors of leather I'm currently looking at right now. The red is pretty bright, but the brown with aluminum/chrome legs might also help pull off that "lounge while working" look I'm going for. Thoughts?

Please let Ian know what you think in the comments below...thanks!

The red is so blinding... yet so cool... I'm stuck in between the two as well.

I'd have to say the red. There's something really striking about it where as the brown is just there.

What does Obey Giant in this picture?
I like the brown better.

brown - the red is jarring, not conducive to a calm work environment. You have enough stress dealing with clients.

If you are going for the lounge while you work feel... definitely the brown one

I dig the red, it reminds me of a Ferrari. I actually think it depends on the style of the overall room. If you have no other bright colors, the red would make a great accent. If your room is a full of bright colors, then the brown would definitely make for a more subtle addition. If your room is stark white, I think you could go either way. Good luck!

@MRL I believe that's the Corona side chair sold at Macy's.

I'd go with the brown. It's more neutral which means the "design life" will be longer (hey the chair IS expensive, might as well enjoy it for longer) Also, you will be sitting in the chair, so I don't think you would really notice the color that much. Plus if you decide that you want more punch, you can add something else.
