Black & Decker's Power Monitor

120808EM100B.jpgHmmm, we're intrigued by this Black and Decker product as an affordable energy audit solution. The EM100B Power Monitor is a real-time energy consumption monitoring device that operates via wireless sensor attached to the electricity meter outside of the home, making this a great DIY, eco-friendly device that will save the environment and money in the long term. A sensor monitors the power usage and transmits the information to a handheld display monitor inside the home, giving users a cost-per-kilowatt-hour and even a billing plan (flat rate, peak/off-peak, or tiered) via the EM100B Power Monitor handheld display. What's really great about this device is its ability to isolates which individual appliance is using how much power in the household, so you can make adjustments accordingly (CFL or LED bulbs, energy-friendly power strips, more efficient large appliances, etc). Seems like a smart move for both the energy grid and the wallet...

The EM100B Power Monitor is available for $99.99 at Amazon.

hmm, i still think the Kill-A-Watt is more versatile.

how would u monitor how much a light bulb is using through the meter outside? is it that sensitive, that it can pick out one light bulb turned off among everything else in the house being metered?

can only really use this if you have a house. otherwise its kind of cool!
