The main trend witnessed at this year's Display Taiwan exhibition was lower power consumption across the board. Exhibitors are switching over from cold-cathode lighting into brighter LED backlighting, giving better contrast and brightness, but only using about half as much power. Breaking it up into kiloWatts, that's about $30 saved a year if you use your computer for about 8 hours a day - quite a savings for the standard 3-year turnover for monitors these days.
