Insuladd Paint

Make your paint insulation? That is what Insuladd claims to do. Being in the middle of a renovation and insulation being the next step in the process we decided to look closer.

Although their website design doesn't exactly reflect a company selling a revolutionary product developed with NASA ceramic technology, they are Energy Star affiliated and claim up to a 50% increase in the insulation R-value of your home. Simply mix the additive with your exterior or interior paint and it forms a reflective coating to keep the warmth in when it is cold resulting in a more efficiently heated room.

Still skeptical, check out their lab tests. Don't suppose anyone has used this product before?

That's certainly the first lab report I've seen that concludes a statement of findings with "THAT'S A FACT!" I guess I'm just not up-to-date on the norms of scientific writing.

It's interesting how they tell you what that bedroom ceiling would look like in infrared if they painted it with Insuladd-infused paint, but that's the one scenario they don't actually photograph in infrared. How sad that they ran out of film.

This writer on Epinions agrees with my off-the-cuff assessment of the validity of the company's scientific claims, but we seem to have both taken a freshman chemistry course, which would make us biased.

The EnergyStar seal is for their roof coating, not for the paint additive, by the way.

I do adore AT's science-free approach to "green"! It just proves that it's the people with soul, not the heartless number-crunchers, who will save the earth!
