Do You Ever Think About the View From Your Desk?

060809_tf_deskview1.JPGMost often when laying out furniture in a new space, you keep in mind three main considerations: fit, aesthetics and flow. That is: Where stuff can go, how stuff looks and how you're supposed to walk around the stuff. Sometimes we start thinking about the view from the couch, but do you ever consider the view of your space from the point of view of your workspace?

060809_tf_deskview2.JPGAll too often, we stick our desks into a corner for ease of use and ease of flow. But all we end up with is a dark spot with nothing to look at but drywall. A few framed pieces of art can help to soften the space, but why not flip the desk around?

Turn your back to the wall and face the room you're in, whether it's a dedicated home office, a bedroom or the kitchen, to really appreciate the work you've put into making your space comfortable and uniquely you.

Just see what the idea did for Justin's High Tech Haven, where he took the desk and faced it to a very energizing and artistic thinkspace (below). Isn't that way better inspiration than bland wallpaper?

The reason I always end up sticking my desk in the corner is the wires - even if I attached a powerstrip to the bottom of the desk, I'd still have a huge power cord running to my desk.

Anyone have any tips for dealing with the cable management issues?

My home desk faces a window overlooking my small courtyard garden. All I have to do to de-stress is look outside at the hummingbirds.

My desk is going to be in the middle of the office, where I can see out a window and the double doors into the rest of the couch. I'll figure out a way to deal with the power cords for the laptop and the lamp - maybe a rug of some sort covering it.

My desk sticks out perpendicular from a wall in my small 1 bedroom and divides my kitchen and living room areas. It faces the windows and more importantly, the TV. I don't feel as confined as I would if I were facing a wall.

It's actually the IKEA Expedit desk attached to the matching shelving unit. All my cables run into one of the cubies.
