Couch Camping: The Next Big Thing?

101008_an_couch_camping.jpgAfter we found this silly picture from Nick over on Flickr, curiously named "couch camping gear," it got us thinking. Seeing as gas prices probably won't drop below $3 any time soon, it's probably best to go camping somewhere closer than a National Park. Plus, you wouldn't want any bears to keep you from visiting your favorite site in the universe, right?

So, let's open it up for you readers and portability maniacs - do you carry a million things to the couch when you guys watch the television or a movie? Or is this some kind of twisted joke that falsely delineates the joys of camping outdoors?

Personally, I find it intriguing seeing how laptops are almost completely replacing desktops - and we all thought those things were going to be around forever due to their upgradability and such. As for me, I keep it old school. I keep my television in one room and my desktop (yeah, I don't get out much) in another room. If I need to watch television, I'll grab a box of Cheez-It's and sprawl myself on the sofa until I get comfortable enough to sleep. It's such a pain though, especially when someone sends you a message and funny sounds echo from the other room. So, I can understand the need to bring all sorts of widgets and things to the sofa, just to watch a television show or movie.

I absolutely bring a cache of gear to accompany me on long couch rides. My new Acer One replaces Nick's Mac, and some form of portable gaming is usually included since my better half usually picks what we watch and sometimes I have to distract myself.

The climate control remote is an addition that sparks my jealousy.

Im so there, Last Sunday I had the laptop playing sirius radio's football station, was checking stats on NFL.com, watching two games on my PIP plasma and had my iphone for texting. Im like camping on my couch for reals when it comes to football season. Im a football bear going into hibernation, just for one day a week.

I guess I'm a bit old school too - desktops in the computer room. I rarely bring out a laptop (I have 3 though for some reason... and will probably be getting a new mb in - oh - 4 maybe 5 days...wink wink) But I'm not a casual couch sitter really. I sit on the couch with my wife to watch a movie/tv dvd from netflix or play a video game (Yay for LBP beta!) That's pretty much it. I do have a ridiculous amount of remotes and game controllers around (yeah I have a harmony - no I don't use it for some reason...) We occasionally bring snacks to the couch. I do set my alarm on my watch if I'm watching an ebay auction and run in the computer room when the alarm goes off - usually mid-movie haha.
