ICFF: Geneva Lab's Latest Furniture Music

051808_sz_Genevafront.jpg2008-ICFF-Unplggd.jpgDespite only being a prototype, we made a beeline for this beautiful media center as soon as we walked into the International Contemporary Furniture Fair yesterday. Designed by Geneva Lab, who made the snazzy iPod sound system we gave away last year, this new system is for those living large. Geneva Lab's rep George Emerson told us the company makes "furniture music," so lets take a look at their audio craft...051808_sz_Genevaroll.jpg

Expected to hit stores in October or November, the $3,500 system features four midrange 5.5" speakers and two tweeters in the center cabinet, along with a 12" subwoofer on the left.051808_sz_Genevaopen.jpg
The cabinet is made with MDF, hand painted with 11 coats of either black or white lacquer and features an iPod dock on the top left hand corner.051808_sz_genevaipod.jpgThe right hand side holds a cabinet to store A/V components.051808_sz_genevarghtopn2.jpg

The prototype's grills were very much still in prototype stage. Emerson assured us that the finished product will hold the same high quality grills found on the company's iPod sound systems. They haven't decided though if the grills will be inset like the sound system's or not.

I found a good furniture store recently that I think some will find interesting. It is called BestPricedFurniture.

What interested me about the site is they have a wide range designs of entertainment racks and centers like the picture above.

My work place has a similar model as part of the office furniture set up for use with meetings and to play background music. I’ve wanted one for my home ever since I saw it. It’s expensive but it looks amazing.

I personally do not think this applies much to office furniture, But i would defiantly consider something similar for my home. An media station.. brilliant.

Furniture music, or in French musique d’ameublement (sometimes more literally translated as furnishing music), is background music originally played by live performers. The term was coined by Erik Satie in 1917.

This piece of furniture is a little too modern for me. However, there has been some new innovations in the tv furniture market lately.

Wow! Lovers of music and the new audio technologies that have been introduced in recent years will love this system.

I can see it being used in a variety of settings as both a formal and informal piece of furniture. And iPod connectivity makes it a must-have item for any family with teenage children.

The quality of the sound system means that you could be entertaining guests in the pergola out back and still be able to hear the music pumping away in the background two or three rooms away.
