In Case You Missed It: Steve's Australian Mancave

022309_an_steve2.jpgLast Friday, Steve the "reclusive failed novelist," wow'ed us with a surprisingly hip and unusual space converted from an old warehouse. Features included a wonderfully implemented home theater system capable of viewing from both his recessed bed and ample lounge area. With a little mix of class, elements of a home theater, and tons of art, it's hard to find anything to not like.

Update: Thanks to nothingfuture for catching the typo. 100 feet is IMAX-sized, no? :)

Wall to wall, you'll find great artwork hung at the same level as the main projection screen. Not only does this create a sense of ample space, but it balances the scale of a room that utilizes a whoopin' 100-inch screen (we're guessing on the dimensions, obviously).

022309_an_steve3.jpgBeing able to watch movies and browse the computer from a lofted bed definitely counts as a cherry on top of an already brilliantly designed layout.

022309_an_steve4.jpgJust take a look at those sexy floors. One advantage about keeping everything dark in a home theater space (other than to make the brighter colors "pop" as they do) is the fact that you effectively remove any "hazing" caused by bright floors and walls. In a sense, the ultimate movie watching experience is recreated.

022309_an_steve5.jpgFinally, a closeup of his home theater system. Those speakers looks like an audiophile system - though we're unable to identify the speaker model. Any takers on the equipment seen here?

If you're interested in checking out his entire house tour, we highly suggest checking it out over here.

The speakers look like older Martin Logans with the grills taken off.

100" screen, not 100 Foot. Or those speakers are frickin' huge.

Speakers look like a DIY MTM version of Linkwitz Orions.

They definitely have Seas drivers up top, and probably Peerless down below.

In the comments section of the linked page Steve confirmed my guess:

Trailingedge,

Yes, during a temporary attack of geekiness I did make them myself. They are based on these: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/

More information than any sane person would want on the speakers can be found here:

Oh, and the screen is a 110" Stewart Firehawk with a JVC RS1.
