Roundup: Best Ways to Use Ikea's Dioder Lights

061108_sz_ikeadioderlight.jpgFor those of you in New York, we're sure you're just as excited as us for the opening of Ikea in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The store doesn't open for another week, but we got a sneak peek of the space this afternoon.

While all Ikea stores tend to look alike, we have to say Ikea Brooklyn has a bit more of a modern flare than those in surrounding counties. One of the things that caught our eye right off the bat was the store's creative use of its Dioder lighting strips.

You may remember a few months back when we featured a Dioder lit desk from Flickr user Vince Welter. Well, looks like Ikea's creative team was inspired by Welter's use of the diode strips...

We mostly saw Dioders used as backlighting for media centers. In the top photo the glowing shelves effect was created by sticking the strips on the backside of the glass shelves. 061108_sz_diodershelf.jpg They were all stuck on top the inside of the cabinet frame. 061108_sz_diodercabinet.jpg

Here the strips are attached directly onto the TV's back, reflecting off the wall behind it. 061108_sz_diodertv.jpg Which creates this effect on one of Ikea's media center cabinets. 061108_sz_diodertvset.jpg

And finally, they were placed on the underside of this console. 061108_sz_ikeadioderunder.jpg

We think it's a pretty cool way to use these $50 lighting strips.
