Now that McMansions are out of style, we're not sure how necessary ride mowers are going to be in the near future. But, if you do need one for some reason, an electric version makes a lot of sense. Get more details and vote after the jump.

The Recharge Mower ($2,195) can be completely charged overnight, runs for 3 hours on a full battery, connects to a standard wall outlet, is described as "extremely quiet," needs no gas or oil, and produces no emissions. We still like reel mowers, but this might be a nice option if you were stuck with a giant lawn.
So what do you think?

Electric mowers are a great idea. A gas mower running for only an hour spews out as much pollution as a car does running for many hours. Also, given the simplicity of maintaining an electric mower vs gas (1 moving part, no oil to change, etc) - it's easy to take care of.
Over on EVAlbum there are a whole bunch of DIY electric mower projects. The folks there seem very pleased with them.

$2000 for a lawn mower is a lot of money.
$2000 for an electric car with a 3-hour charge sounds kind of amusing. It would more than get me to work and back, and wouldn't be too difficult to get labeled street-legal as a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (not allowed to go faster than 25 mph, not allowed on certain roads)... hm...

This looks like a compact sized unit which would certainly be a benefit to move through my side gate to the rear yard. Although I do not have the largest lawn - with my knee issues - this makes a lot of sense as a way to keep me at my gardening. I looked at the website and they even have a compact garden trailer - just a nice addition.
