Digitize Your DVD's

2008_03_26 rip dvd.jpgAll of our music is neatly stored as digital files in both our Apple TV and Mac, but our small DVD collection still sits out on the shelf collecting dust. Taking the time to actually cleanup the files on our laptop the other day prompted the question: "Why haven't we ripped all our DVD's?"

Aside from laziness, we just haven't taken the time to figure it out. If this is you, Lifehacker has a nice how to guide on doing this quickly and easily. Now you can clean up your living room while still having easy access to your movie collection.

Then if you have an Apple TV, once you've ripped, use handbrake (available free) to convert into Apple TV compatible format (handbrake has an Apple TV preset so you don't even need to play with settings). It's a joy to be able to lounge on the couch and pull up any movie! Quality is quite good.

i've been having trouble with handbrake. the audio keeps on getting out of sync with the video. they updated the software to possibly fix this since other people had the problem but only for OS 10.5, which i didn't upgrade to leopard yet. So i'm sitting here with audio about half a second off.
