Green Tip: Schedule Cell Phone Charging Times

081909_iphone_charging.jpgHere's the ugly truth: Your plugged in cell phone charger cord left in over night eats away at your phone battery life and wastes electricity. The easy and cheap solution to counter this evil power vampire? Just grab an appliance timer (kinda like this one) and get scheduling!

081909_wall_timer.jpgAbove is one of the cheapest timers we could find Amazon, the Intermatic Lamp and Appliance Timer with 2 On/Off Settings and an easy lighted dial. It runs $11.

We have 3-4 of these in our own home and we've found more uses for them than we could ever imagine. Whether it's keeping a small desk light to turn at night during long vacations (instead of powering a full security system) or killing off power to our home theater equipment, it's a sweet budget solution that can really put you in control of those power vampires for good.

those are convenient. another easy way is to plug your items into powerstrips and simply turn the powerstrip on/off. i did this at my old place and cut my electric bill by 2/3!

That's a great idea. I wonder if it can be used on a sattelite receiver which sucks up alot of juice 24/7.
