How To: Increase Your Workspace Productivity

072409_robbstory.jpgIt happens to the best of us. A magazine here. Old bills there. And things just start to pile up. Luckily, Gina Trapani from the Harvard Business Review has a few workplace producivity tips to help us all out, with a heavy emphasis on keeping junk that you don't normally use far, far away from your primary work area.

Gina continues:

"Split your workspace tools and current paperwork into two categories: what should be within arm's reach and what shouldn't. Right now, as you sit at your desk, consider every single item that you can reach out and touch. Is there anything you use less than a few times a week? Get it out of your way. (Hint: If it's dusty, it doesn't need to be there.) Is there anything you use often that's not right nearby? Relocate it to the space right in front of you.

For example, if you rarely use the hole punch, store it in the office supplies drawer. If you're always jotting things down, a fresh notepad and uncapped pen should be next to your mouse pad."

Other tips include getting ergonomic; mice, keyboards, and seating all contribute to a better (and more productive) working environment. Adding a widescreen monitor (or two) can also boost productivity in the long run, but making sure to adjust as necessary as the best gauge to comfort is yourself!

Have other tips to add that helps boost your productivity ten fold? Let us know in the comments!
