How to... Makeover with Appliance Paint

082009_tf_apppaint.jpgHave you been over to The Kitchn to see the $30 Kitchen Makeover (above)? What was once a dated 1950's kitchen is now retro-chic, thanks in no small part to a little bit of appliance paint...

If you're as unsatisfied with your kitchen's appliance colors as Susan Churcher says she was in this article from Sunset, you should know that there's an 'out' for you.

You don't need to shell out for all new appliances, either. If your kitchen needs a face lift to tide you over until you've got some bit loot to spend, try a little bit of appliance paint! This is also a great tip to know if you just need to touch up a spot or two on your black fridge.

You should be able to get a hold of acrylic appliance paint at home improvement stores, but if you have a bit of trouble finding the perfect shade, you can always shop online!

Once you've got the stuff in hand, follow the How To instructions at eHow to get your appliances prepped, painted and ready for their close-up!

It looks like not only were the appliances painted, but also the range hood, the walls and the countertop. I'd be curious to know how well this will hold up to actual active kitchen use, as opposed to just looking nice in a photo... Vent hoods tend to need to be cleaned pretty thoroughly or else they get greasy, and counters get wiped down and scrubbed on a regular basis. Is there really a paint that will hold up to stuff like that and not wear away or peel off ?

yep, I painted my kitchen cabinets...talk about a huge job! I had to sand, primer (twice!), paint (two coats) and polyurethane them and they STILL have chipped and cracked over 4 years and now look like crap....
Now I have to do it all over again but I just can't bring myself to do it because it sucked so bad the first time!
