Instructables user TimBTodd has a DIY project that upgrades the push-pin-and-bed-sheet impromptu projector screen and gives it some pseudo-professional flair (and a little sturdy reinforcement).
It's a simple project that involves sewing lengths of PVC pipe into the two ends of the bed sheet for strength and stability. As a bonus, you can easily roll up your projector sheet for storage.
Some eyelet grommets in the top end of the sheet and eye hooks screwed into the ceiling ensure that you're ready to hang and watch—no push pins required.
You could even take a cue from Instructables user TimBTodd and have eye hooks ready in a few rooms. Good for extra-broke people with projectors in every room—or those whose projectors are portable.
A decent way to upgrade this project for not a lot of money is to get blackout fabric from a fabric store. Normally used on curtains to keep the light from entering a room, it works extremely well to project onto. Since it is not sheer, all of the light projected onto the fabric is reflected back. I built a frame for mine and stapled it to the back. The frame can hang on a wall like blank canvas, but we enjoy it most when we take it in the back yard, hang it from the balcony and have an outdoor movie night in the grass.
