How-To: Turn an Ikea Headboard into a Projector Shelf

061308_sz_ikeaprojectorwall.jpgIf you own a projector you know how hard it is to figure out where to place it in a room so that it doesn't become the focal point, but it still beams a great image onto your wall or screen. Small Cool 2008 nominee Jordan showed us that an Ikea Expedit could do the trick, but during our press tour of the new Ikea in Brooklyn we saw a headboard that could also solve the problem on the cheap...

The $150 Mandal headboard, which can be mounted directly into the wall, comes with six black shelves that fit into the slats within the wood. 061308_sz_ikeamandalshelf.jpg

We thought if you placed two or three shelves side-by-side you could fit a small projector on them and snake the A/V and power cables through the headboard's slats and down to the necessary plugs. This way the projector isn't in the middle of the room and you can lay back on your comfy bed and watch a great flick. 061308_sz_ikeamandalshleves.jpg

The Epson Moviemate would be great little number on here, since it features a built in DVD player and its own speakers.
