Ion USB VCR: Get Rid of Those VHS Tapes Forever

2008_07_25 ion-usb-vcr.jpgPlease be kind. Rewind. At least with the Ion USB VCR, it will be for the last time. We have seen how to take vinyl digital, so if you are on a quest to rid yourself of all things analog this is the next step.

Plug it into your computers USB port and capture video in MPEG4 at resolutions up to 720x480. The only problem is, after you have gone through all your VHS tapes you can't really do anything else with it. It either ends up collecting dust or has you searching for other VHS converters in need to take it off your hands.

Available here for $230.

Someone needs to offer this VCR for rent.

Who says capitalism's dead? spinsLPs has a great idea. Or maybe buy a couple and offer it as a service for people. That way you could pay for the cost of converting your own tapes then put it to use when you're done.

Thirded. I would like a week with this.
Or chip in for it as a relay-ring of consumer friends to pass it on.
