Keep Your Computer Cool

2007-10-22altcooling.jpgWe've posted about keeping your electronics cool during the summer heat, but as we roll into the cooler temperatures of fall and winter, we don't want to forget about the fact that our computers can still fall prey to overheating.

Lifehacker reminded us, so we're passing the reminder on to you: make sure that you keep the cooling fans free of dust and that vents are kept clear.

If you're computer's running hotter than normal, shut it down and give it a break, and even run a fan on it to help speed the cooling process. If it's regularly running really hot, definitely check into what it would take to get it fixed. We'd hate to see anyone loose their computer--and data--over a preventable problem.

Don't forget to back up too! Just a friendly reminder from someone who needs to follow his own advice. Had a friend of a friend (a DJ no less) lose his entire external that held all of his music over the weekend.
