Save Your CDs from the Scratch Monster!
If you want to save a few dollars--and spend a little elbow grease instead--to save your scratched CDs from your coaster/cheap wall decoration/Frisbee collection, check out this tutorial from Instructables.com.
CDs are imprinted under the label side (not on the silver side as most people believe), though the non-label side must be smooth so that the laser can find its way properly.
Hold a scratched CD up to the light: if you can see through your CD, it’s not able to be repaired. But if it’s a deep scratch that still blocks out the light, you can probably fix it with this method.
Keep in mind, also, that you should use the product recommended, Brasso, in a well-ventilated area.
Does anyone have a non- or less-toxic CD refinisher they have had success with?
