Why Not... Use an Antique Fridge as a Bookshelf?

082609_tf_fridgeshelf1.jpgOK, this trend is officially blowing up! First we see people busting out the screens of vintage TVs for storage and then dissecting the insides of a radio for a safe keeper. Now, a fridge stays (mostly) intact as a groovy and eclectic bookshelf.

A donated fridge from the high school drama department turned into a new bookshelf for the school's English classroom.

This project came about after crafty DIY-er and English teacher devonteran at Instructables jokingly promised their students that the best work would get put up on his fridge. But he did one better—putting the colorful and vibrant fridge inside the classroom doing double duty as a bookshelf.

All it took was a coat of paint and a few Plexiglas shelves. Check out the whole 'How To' here at Instructables.

The fridge in the example photo looks quite small, but antique fridges are a bit dangerous to just keep around. The airtight spaces cannot be opened from the inside, so if a child thought it looked like something fun to climb into, they could suffocate, unable to let themselves out.
