Magnetic USB Hub

2008-4-4usbmag.jpgThis space saving USB hub allows you to attach it to any metal surface. Available in white or black, you'll instantly have four extra ports without sacrificing desk space.

2008-4-4usbmag2.jpgA word of warning, you need to be careful about where you attach magnets when its near computers and monitors. But if you're looking for a USB solution, we think this could easily be hidden and attached to your desk.

Available from Brando for $12.

that's exactly what i've been looking, i hate trying to get at the ports behind my imac, and my entire desk is metal, it would be great to stick it up underneath the desktop.

Anybody else think this is a horrible idea? Strong magnets and computers don't typically make a great combo. I wouldn't put this thing near my computer.

I Hope that's not your XPC Kelly....you do realize that the hard drive is right there behind where you have that magnet right???

Are you sure this isn't a hold over April Fools joke? Seems like an awful idea to me...

If it's nowhere near the hard drive you might be alright. But I probably wouldn't risk it.

That is a Shuttle XPC. The hard drive is located right next to the spot here that USB hub has been attached. It won't be long before the magnet of the USB hub fries the data on your hard drive.

You cannot have such a magnet near a hard drive or a monitor. See the speakers you have next to the monitor and PC? those ot magnetically shielded so as not to interfere with other electronic equipment. They are made to be used with PCs, unlike traditional speakers, so they come with magnetic shielding to avoid interference.

I'd suggest placing he hub at least a foot away from your configuration.
