A Fresh Idea for Desktop Management

Here's a great one from Range...

072508_sz_slice3.jpg Information and files can be easily misplaced on our gigantic hard drives. Who among us hasn’t lost a file or searched for one buried deeply in different drives and folders?

Currently, computer file management systems force users to store files hierarchically in folders. Project get buried deeper and deeper without providing any visual clues on how to find them. The Slice computing system is a concept that seeks to change this. Organically inspired from a need to organize and interact with information, it enables users to physically interact with information, by interacting with the slice...

Each slice visually represents different folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures etc. Users organize and place files physically. 072508_sz_slice2.jpg We can foresee people just picking up slices and taking them with them, kind of like giant USB drives, without much of the hassle associated with their management. We just wonder how much more clutter these will lead to on desktops. --Range

I'd be more concerned about losing a slice. If there is a backup system in place on a less-than portable computer, that might work just fine. But if a portable slice is your one and only way of having these files accessible, that's just begging for trouble. Just ask all those federal employees who lose laptops loaded with classified documents or social security numbers.

This is brilliant! My daughter has something like this as a childs toy that teaches the letters and all the associated sounds, this is brilliant and so cool.

I don't even care how much, id likely be first in line.
