Clever Substitutions: Inflatable Exercise Ball for Your Office Chair

101608_an_ball_chair.jpgHere's one you might not have seen before. How about replacing your clunky office chair with one of these bad boys? These inflatable exercise balls can be found for pretty cheap around your local fitness store. Plus, you can do some sit-ups and all types of exercises during downtime - something that was darn near impossible with that office chair laying around.

Anyone give this a try? Looks like it could be pretty fun. Maybe you could even run this by the boss and he'll replace everyone's Aeron chairs with colorful balls all over the office.

Apparently, it strengthens your core allowing for a better sex life. Until someone named Jim stabs it with scissors.

I used to use a fitness ball as a chair for my sewing table, simply because I didn't have anywhere else to store it. It's not bad, but if I had a choice I'd prefer a chair.

I used one for awhile in college. It supposedly strenghten's your core (because you use your muscled to keep balanced on it) but i just found myself slouching.

We actually have several people in my office using these. They swear they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I tried it for a few days and ended up with a fairly sore back. Haven't tried again since - if I could get one with a base & casters so I could slide towards and away from my desk without falling backwards, I might be more inclined to try again.

The brief time I've used one (also at a sewing table) I was a fan... I'm tempted to get one, though I have such a surplus of chairs in my tiny apartment that it's a bit of overkill right now...

though -- supposedly, it keeps you upright more reliably... couldn't tell you about the better sex part though.

Another use for the fitness ball: my daugher uses hers to exercise her legs while sitting on a chair and working at her desk. So it keeps her moving while working! Thanks

I think these balls are ok for short-term use. I have one that I use as a spare chair. But for everyday, extended use... not for me. I actually like a real chair with an actual back to, you know, actually sit in.

I've heard of people using balls for YEARS. This is certainly nothing new. I use it because it helps the sciatica. Rumor has it, you're only supposed to sit for 20-min at a time so it doesn't screw w/your alignment.

Does anyone else think its lame to put Apple stickers on your stuff? I recieved a bunch with my macbook but I can't imagine putting them anywhere. If a product is made by mac, it already has an apple logo, if it isn't then it has whatever logo the company uses. I just don't get it I guess. Would anyone put Panasonic or Sony stickers on their stuff?

I've been doing this at home forever, well at least as long as I've had one of the balls. But if I had the money for an Aeron chair, I'd put the exercise ball away, the ball is better than a crappy chair, but nowhere near as good as a really good chair. That said, my guests like sitting on it, especially children.

I've been trying to talk my boss into letting me use a ball for a chair - my Aeron chair is too big for me and therefore very uncomfortable. I often sit on a ball at home. Gaiam has a version with castors that they have been making for years.

I have a friend that used one as his desk chair for a while - until it popped. Yes, he's a little large. No, Jim wasn't involved.
