Computer-Monitor-as-TV-Screen Done Right!

Yeah, yeah. We're always hearing about how your home computer—with it's DVD drive and connectivity to Hulu and Netflix—can completely replace your TV screen and cable box. We've just never seen it done like this...

We love the way the screen that's front-and-center in Flickr user mdparaiso's home theater setup makes itself useful as both a movie screen and a computer monitor.

That sideboard that the TV is visually resting upon is a multi-purpose hub for this small, cool space dweller. Inside and around it, you'll find: A Playstation 3, a 13-inch Apple MacBook, a Lenovo T61, Polk RM-series speakers, a Samsung TV/Monitor, a Logitech diNovo Bluetooth keyboard (with built-in touchpad), a Logitech Harmony 550 remote and an Apple iPhone 3G.

It's a great inspiration to other small-space renters to forget trying to carve out a dedicated home office and go for a multi-purpose living room instead. You can make it work!

Yeah I had to sign up for just to comment this one, Epic win for you guys :)

However I don't see the big deal, he has his own tv and a cabinet to place all the stuff in. Whats next, don't tell me he has his very own macbook hooked up to it??? Oh wait he has, the crows goes wild- etc etc. And then? The wires arent even sorted, wich is why i guess you have interest in this case to begin with.

And no one does their office work at the tv anyway, it's not comfortable sitting so far away reading text. I have followed this site for some time due to some great articles, but seriously....

Ditto. I have a similar setup but I need to move the laptop to a desk to do any work.

Also, those exposed wire covers do not look too hot. speakers on two stands next to the unit would look cleaner.

cute set up, but what kind of chair is he using? the stand looks very low...which means he would have to bend over to type....?

That sideboard isn't useful as a desk at all. My desk is in my living room and my computer monitor is the screen I watch movies on, but the monitor is on a desk-height surface so that it's useable.
