Go Monochrome: Complementing Tech with Black and White

011209_an_bw_stripes.jpgLast week, we saw how well stripes played in with the half-home entertainment half-kitchen design at Innerspec's Swedish home, so why not make it a tad more dramatic by washing out all the colors and leaving it completely monchromatic? It might be overkill on the contemporary for some, but it's a bit refreshing now that everyone's gone color crazy. Here are a few tips to help you incorporate home tech into your design with finesse and ease...

011209_an_bw_stripes2.jpgWhen it comes to matching that design with your television and home theater equipment, we always suggest complementing it with a bezel that utilizes glossy coating (seen in many Samsung, LG, and Sharp AQUOS flat screen television sets). As for home theater equipment, the same technique applies, though if you want to save money and not have to re-buy every component in a specific color, we suggest using IR receiver and hide the actual components within a local shelf nearby.

These pictures don't provide a very good realistic reference point for using the color scheme since they've been so heavily retouched in Photoshop. The first one is a black and white photo and the others are black and white photos where bits and pieces of desaturated color have been allowed to bleed through here and there.

You can't "desaturate" your home the same way these photos have been manipulated.

It's not like someone photoshopped a UFO into these photos. So some of the images don't give a realistic idea of actual reality- not a big deal. The inspiration is the same. If there were a price list of all the items in the room with the expectation that a reader was going to purchase what they see, you would still have to get past the fact that everyone's monitor will display the colors differently- buyer beware. Imagery in magazines and the net is always modified for presentation.

I think maybe you just wanted to tell everyone that you know how to use photoshop.

Anyway- I don't like these rooms because the contrast would drive me CRAZY, but I think it could work for someone.

Sorry, this is OT.

I *love* you for writing "Here are a few tips" rather than "Here's a few tips". Thank you! The use of the "is" contraction with a plural noun has become epidemic, and I can't stand it!
