A great big desk underneath a window. This could be our dream workspace.

Not only do you get lots of natural light, but you have a view of the world to inspire you. As a photographer, Peter certainly has a lot of digital gear to contend with. But it harmonizes well with his collection of objects including a found darkroom timer and fuzzy dice.

We want to step inside this photo and sit down to work on our own photographs. Or maybe just stare out the window for awhile.

Wow! Can I work there? Also, I love that lamp on the left. Please share where you found it.

I'd love to know where that desk is from.

Hey, thanks for the comments and the post! I like the setup too, though this is somewhat outdated; maybe I'll get a new picture of it soon (it's much cleaner now!). Here's a closer look at least: http://www.flickr.com/photos/peterbaker/86485005/

The two lamps on either side are just cheapo wall lamps from Ikea. Same with the entertainment center / printer-scanner rolling table underneath.

The desk I made myself, in order to fill the space. It's just some 4x4's and plywood, with 1x1's running around the table edge for support, then sanded and hand-stained.

Fantastic, I was thinking about making my own desk, but wasn't sure I could get something that looked nice enough. How thick was the plywood you got?

I had a similar setup many years ago, then one day my computer (early 90s Mac) started performing oddly and eventually wouldn't work. I received a phone call from the repair shop that the light and warmth of the computer interior was enough of a draw to completely fill the inside of the box with tiny bugs, some dead, some not. In addition, the spider-webbing was incredibly dense... Brought new meaning to the term "debugging" the system...

Find a way to ensure that little things can not get through that window to your equipment.

Noah, the plywood is half inch. The lumber doesn't even match; the 1" runners are doug fir and the legs are redwood, but if you stain the hell out of them you can't even tell. It's really as simple as a table can get (with five legs though because of the length)

nmbosque; I just vacuumed out the inside of my computer after reading that.
