Inspiration: Ron Arad's Lolita Pendant Combines LEDs and Crystals

It seems that more and more, technology and common household items are becoming entangled. LEDs are starting to appear everywhere, from watches, to lamps, to displays. LEDs can be used in a variety of ways, but this is the first time that we have seen them used in a pendant lamp as a display of sorts for information.

This incredible looking pendant lamp was created by Ron Arad in 2004 and is called Lolita. It's part of a display of his work at the Museum of Modern Art of New York called No Discipline, which will open on August 2nd and run until October 19th of this year. The lamp features crystals and LEDs. The crystals are from Swarovski. This will be the first major US retrospective of Arad's work. Arad is one of the most influential designers of our time. He is known for his daredevil explorations of form, structure, and technology. It's interesting to see such an unusual piece, which wouldn't be out of place in a mansion. The LEDs that are hidden in the lamp light up and can flash text messages through the structure.

We found this really interesting. The fact that the LEDs can be either invisible or light up to display information is quite intriguing. It's a strange combination of materials and technology that we could see used to displaying important messages and warnings, not just texts from your mates.
