Yeah, yeah.. we get it. Speaker location super important when it comes to proper stereo imaging, but what if you don't care about all that? What if making your place feel welcoming trumps having a pair of bookshelf speakers greet you every time you step in the room? Perhaps it's time to take a few bold steps towards unconventional speaker placement...
Quite frankly, we think hiding the speakers underneath the media console is a great idea. This creates a more airy environment for conversation and eliminates having the focal point be electronic devices, a problem many living rooms tend to have trouble shaking off.
Sure, you might not get the best sound than if placed on speaker stands with tweeters level at your ear, but when the primary focus is people, a little decrease in the sound department is well worth the sacrifice.

Love the couch! Anyone have any idea what it is?

Looks like quality speakers....sad to see them treated in such a way.

don't think you'd be getting the most out of your speakers with such poor placement. i also hope that person doesn't have neighbors living below him.

Doode - if sound quality means that little to you, just get a Bose iPod dock and call it a day...
Or... You could also try (if you own your place) springing for in-wall or in-ceiling speakers that would give you much better sound (at a price, however) while still being invisible.
I understand people have different priorities, so to each his/her own. However, seeing speakers set up like that makes die a little inside.... :/
