The Malmese Twins

ikeahackmalmesejpg.jpg

Check out this great budget media center posted on Ikea Hacker. The couple combined two Ikea Malm bedside tables and bolted the joined units onto the wall as a floating media center that does a great job of displaying their flat panel monitor while also offering usable storage.

Our only criticism is the cables are still visible from the sides; they'd complete the presentation to a higher degree if they drilled holes for the cables to slink behind the unit out of view. Otherwise, we think this low cost, high impact home media storage solution is föntastík! [via Ikea Hacker]

GREAT hack! But obviously only works for smaller-sized screens...

Put three of them together for nearly 60" width of real estate, high roller :)

Gregory, great find. Wish I had been so creative when I had some of these, becaue I loved the drawers for tucking things away. As a media center, drawers=easy hidden cord storage.

I have two birch effect ones that I'm not using. (Those don't attach to the bed flush on carpet.) That's an interesting backdrop that I may consider when mounting my LCD in my master.
