Wishlist: A Desktop Calendar with Style

120508_sz_calendar.jpg When Google launched its Gmail themes we thought it was the start of something big. Well, at least we were hoping it was. Our dream was that it was going to start a customization trend for applications that in the past have been stuck in a rut. Apple is the worst about this. Hello, could iCal be any more boring? Well, we're still waiting for the trend to hit, which got us thinking, why are desktop calendars oh so boring?

With the end of the year approaching we've been seeing tons of old school calendars at bookstores and gift shops. You remember those. They're printed on paper. Two sides, one with a grid of dates for the month, the other with a splashy photo or design. Those were the days when calendars weren't just places you put appointments and birthdays, they were small pieces of art on your wall. So, why, can't the desktop cal be a small piece of desktop art?

Imagine your iCal with a Dutch theme like that made by etsy seller thebeautifulproject.

Or a tea towel inspired desktop calendar like cicadastudio's.

Or a donut theme the Homer Simpson's of the 3-D world would love.

Is there a desktop calendar like these out there already, or is this just a pipe dream? Apple coders, are you reading?
