iPhone and Google Help You Price-Match

Taryn brings us more tech that may inevitably incorporate itself into our future...

072508_tf_pricematch.jpgAs tech-savvy as everybody here at Unplggd is, we're sure a lot of you buy most things online. Even still, there are some things you just
have to go to the store for.

But rest assured that you can bring your tech love with you when make the trek to the department store for those necessary purchases.

Real Simple, via Geek Sugar, offers two helpful tips, from an iPhone application and Google, for price-comparison shopping while you're away from your desktop…

The Checkout SmartShop iPhone application turns your iPhone's camera into a barcode scanner. Type any UPC code into the phone (camera-based scanning support is coming soon) and your phone will find the best
deal online instantly.

But if you don't have an iPhone or don't want to pay $5 for the application, then Real Simple suggests you send a text to Google at "466453" with the item name that you spot while out shopping ("Billy Bass Limited Edition"), and then type "price." Google will then text you back with the price of that item at different stores.

This application will drive even more traffic to big box retailers. The unrelenting drive to sell goods for the lowest price possible contributes to inhumane working conditions around the world. I would love to see an application that would tell me how much the workers in the factory where the item was made were making. 25 cents an hour, $1 per hour?
