When you are on the go, and far from your iPhone dock, it's always a hassle to find a way to put down your phone. The one thing that you don't want to happen is for your precious iPhone to drop on the floor. We've recently showcased a DIY iPhone stand made from binder clips. It's good, but it does take up more space than this stand. Sure, the DIY iPhone stand doesn't cost you a dime, but sometimes, you want something even sleeker and useful. That's where the BatRest comes into play. It's cheap and it also fits in your wallet.
Yep that's right, the Seskimo BatRest fits in your wallet. It folds up to the size of a credit card and can be taken anywhere. On top of that, it works for other phones and PMP players, so it's not a one-trick-pony. It's a neat looking folding cradle for use at your work desk, on the plane, or anywhere else.
The BatRest can even support something as large and heavy as a liter of OJ! Now that's sturdy. It works find for digital cameras and anything else you can think of, like a book. It comes in black, white or translucent. The support is curved so it works well for iPhones. You can open the arms wider to make the screen more vertical. It folds completely flat to about 1.2mm thick. The best thing is that it costs $4. Now that's cheap! [via Courtenay]

I bought it. I'm impressed with the service of the company (they processed the order in less than 12 hours and I got it in about 5 days -- I think it came from England, and I'm in Los Angeles), but I'm underwhelmed with the product.
The stand is sturdy, but the "point" on the arch of the stand is too high, making the iPhone stand up at attention so much it almost falls over. The lip at the bottom needs to be a little deeper, as well. Also note that you can't use it with any kind of case -- being as small as it is, there's very little tolerance for any kind of shenanigans. You either set the naked iPhone in there and don't touch it, or the whole house of cards comes tumbling down.
I'm sure this works perfect if all you plan to do is use it on your desk. And even if you're not, you can get the thing for like $7, which includes shipping, so why not, right? But the old adage holds true: you get what you pay for :)

pandemicsoul: I also bought it. I was also impressed with the service. And I was also underwhelmed with the product.
As for service, I ordered several and they came right away. Somewhere along the route, the envelope had gotten wet and they poked right through the side and fell out. I placed a new order and explained what happened and asked them to wrap the BatRests in something before putting them in the envelope. They apologized several times and did just that with no charge for the second order. So very nice!
I have a BlackBerry 8800. Since it is of a similar size and shape as the iPhone, I was assuming that it was one of the other phones that it would work with. Wrong. My phone slid right off this thing.
I gave them to a co-worker who has an iTouch. He tried them out and said that it would just barely balance on the BatRest, *if* it were sitting on a totally level, totally still surface. Bumping into the edge of the table would knock it off the stand.
The BatRest is a neat idea, but I think that many of the do-it-yourself stands would be more practical.

Thanks to Unpluggd for mentioning the BatRest. Please note that it cannot support a book for reading, which article implies.
With reference to the commment about the top of the BatRest being too high, the height is adjustable by moving the arms in an out. The closer they are the more the item leans back. That will solve your problem, as well as allowing the iPhone to work with the additional thickness of many cases. Some cases are, however, just the wrong shape to work.
With reference to the comment about the Blackberry, the unit is only designed to accomodate items in landscape mode mainly for watching videos, so it will not support a Blackberry 8800 which has a portrait format. Unfortunately, it will not support the Blackberry Storm either because of the shape of the Blackberry Storm's edge.

P.S. Whilst it is thin enough to fit in some iPhone cases, it is actually designed to be the size of a credit card to fit in your wallet.
