Hot or Not? Demy Digital Recipe Reader

051309 demy recipe.jpgHere's a question for all of you in unplggd land. We have seen people repurpose old laptops into kitchen computers before. While the typical email checking, casual web surfing and even playing back your music library are typical justifications for letting your laptop infiltrate your kitchen, our laptop is only ever in the kitchen for one thing, pulling up a recipe when we are putting together a meal. Since space tends to be an issue for most, having a dedicated kitchen computer just doesn't seem to make sense, but what do you make of a dedicated device for meal prep in the kitchen that measures 7.8 x 5.4 x 3.2 inches?

The Demy digital recipe reader is such a thing (albeit a particulary expensive thing at $300) that allows for storage of up to 2500 recipes and USB sync to keyingredient.com. What do you think?

I'd need a magnifier to read it. Still, if I were designing kitchen appliances, I might like to see a larger screen/ cheaper version of this built in to a microwave or cabinet door at eyelevel...

Paying that much money for something that only does recipes seems much.

Since I grab recipes from the internet and I no longer have a printer at home, I've started sending recipes to my Kindle.

Once the recipe is converted and sent to the Kindle all I have to do is pop the Kindle into a ziplock bag, so I don't have a kitchen tragedy, and I'm ready to go!

Sounds like a cool tool, but my recipes aren't in one neat place to begin with -- they're on other people's blogs or a magazine's website.... I'd rather use a laptop.

I just want to offer a follow up, having one in my hands right now.

Fishgirl: There's 3 font settings that you can change on the fly - ie you don't have to leave the page you're on to change the font size.

angatwork: That sounds great and the kindle does more. I hope to get one. I'm just concerned with brightness and contrast, as this is BRIGHT.

sdlm: The key is that this is pretty water tight. My laptop is getting destroyed in the kitchen. You can copy and paste the recipes into the website and store them forever.

I'm sooo happy with my Demy! I'm writing a review for it on momma's review, to be posted on June 25th
