A lot of people just love coffee. The best beans cost quite a bit of money and they do taste better than your usual coffee. Haven't you ever wondered if your coffee machine is the best way to infuse your daily cup? Well it turns out that there is a better way. This way takes a bit more patience, but with a little organization, you won't really notice this.
The Hourglass coffee infuser isn't really a machine, more like a chemical apparatus. One thing is really cool: it doesn't need any power. Now that is nifty. The only problem is that the coffee needs to infuse for 12 to 24 hours. This coffee maker brews with cold water. This reduces the acid in coffee by almost 70%. We all know that if you drink too much coffee, you get heartburn. The reason is the acid. This acid is responsible for heartburn and bitter taste in coffee. The Hourglass produces a rich and flavorful coffee. The cold brewing creates a concentrated coffee extract that retains the flavor-enhancing oils that are usually lost when the coffee beans are exposed to heat. Tastes better and doesn't give heartburn? Sounds great!
Once the infusion is completed, you just turn the Hourglass around the coffee extract drains into a chamber. You can combine this extract with hot or cold water to create your coffee. The extract can be kept and stored for up to two weeks. This sounds really interesting. All you have to do is just infuse coffee to fill a pitcher or jar with coffee extract. You then continually brew the coffee as you consume it. This makes it easy and you won't have to wait for the coffee to infuse. The Hourglass Coffee Maker sells for $80.

I don't mean to be 'that guy'... but a mason jar filled with coffee grounds and cold water does basically the same thing with out the price tag

For me, making "toddy-brewed" coffee doesn't really feel like I'm making it fresh. As long as I was using the kettle to boil water, I'd rather just use a French Press. But then, I don't usually taste 'bitterness' in coffee, even using my automatic drip pot. Maybe some people are more sensitive to it?

Hey Matt, yep I agree with that assessment. I'm actually going to write a follow-up post on that on how to infuse your own coffee cheaply, without paying $80 for it.
You can actually use a French Press for that as well, or just filter it yourself after 8-24 hours. The Hourglass is still neat as it is a contained solution. Still, you can make your own infused coffee for cheaper.

Yeah, you can definitely cold brew coffee without this silly gadget.
