The Fully Flush Refrigerator

090409_rg_fiullyflush_01.jpgIt's a given that all kitchens have a refrigerator. Sure, there are loads of different kinds, some of the new retro-styled fridges are pretty cool, but in the end, a fridge is just a big box to keep your food from spoiling. Hiding the fridge is a great idea. Just like when you put your small appliances away, this fridge will simply disappear when it's not in use.

This new 42-inch French door refrigerator from Jenn-Air blends in fully flush into a cupboard. It's also got a hidden freezer. This unit will bring a clean, seamless look to your kitchen. The fridge just disappears in the kitchen. Naturally, this doesn't compromise performance. It's still a great fridge that will seem strangely absent from the modern kitchen. It comes with a bunch of features that you'd expect from a high-en fridge, including a water line and water filter.

While having a fully flush refrigerator is certainly cool, we think that paying $6,900 for it is a bit much. Sure it looks nice and is convenient, but we think that if that's the look that you are going for in your kitchen, you can just build a cabinet around your existing fridge. We are sure that this will cost less than the price of this fridge. Still, if money wasn't a concern, this would definitely be on our list of great appliances to get.

Built-in fridges with integrated panels are nice as you point out. Keep in mind the cabinetry panels that finish the refrigerator will add another $1000 or more to the price of the fridge.

"Cabinet-depth" (24") refrigerators allow you to achieve a semi-built-in look because at least the fridge won't jut out beyond the cabinets.

And here's something I never thought of until now. With a fully built-in fridge with panels--what happens when you need to change the filter?

I forgot to make my point about cabinet-depth fridges. You can find them for considerably less than a fully-integrated fridge.

I love the seamless look. I wish Ikea offered similar options for its appliances. It would be a great incentive to get people to buy the Ikea appliance rather than go with what they already have or purchasing appliances elsewhere. And they could swing this for way less that $6900.
