LG's AM-OLED TV Screen

lg-amoled-sz-091109.jpg While Gregory posted about Sony's super slim and super pricey $5,000 flat screen, LG just pwnd them by announcing the largest AM-OLED screen. She's 15-inches -- 4-inches bigger than Sony's own AM-OLED.

Why so small, you ask? AM-OLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) is an emerging tech that uses materials that light up on their own, rather than with a backlight, leading to better picture quality, better energy efficiency, and less girth in comparison to today's already thin LCDs.

It's fantastic technology (I've checked out the little Sony one at the Sony Store) but it's waaaay overpriced. I like being an early adopter but I've learned my lesson with the stupid Macbook Air (an many people with the HDDVD). I won't be making the same mistake again.

Not to mention the relatively short lifespan (currently) for OLED devices. No way would I pay $5K for a device that will only last 5 years or so.
