Crystal Me Mine: Swarovski Hits The Light Switch Department

Okay, okay - so not everything goes well when you throw crystals into the mix, but the boys at Berker Switches and Systems have teamed up with the Swarovski crystal masters in hopes of forever changing the minds of consumers about the power of the crystal. Powerful like the rings those Captain Planet kids used to wear. Or Sailor Moon's crystal wand.

But we're talking light switches. So, why in the world would you want to trade your traditional light switch plates for a multi-faceted Swarovski-cut crystal? Click through the jump to find out...

For one, having a crystal for a light switch just makes you so darn awesome (just look at that model's powerful grin). Okay, so maybe not. But still, the tech behind the magic is actually pretty interesting. Check this out:

"There's a sensor behind each crystal that senses infrared light disruption (i.e. from a hand), similar to rain sensors in automobiles. They call this type of optical recognition "HALIOS," or High Ambient Light Independent Optical System." -Cnet.com

The matte-finished stainless steel faceplate surrounds each of the crystals. They come in 4 flavors: crystal (uhm.. yeah), black diamond, topaz, and siam. No word on pricing or availability as of yet, but more information can be found on their website, here.
