Mathmos AirSwitch Lamp: The Anti-Clapper

111708_tf_airswitch1.jpgRemember The Clapper? As kids, we thought that turning on lights with just a clap of the hands was just about the closest thing to being super-human. As an adult, now we realize if you're not geriatric, there's no reason to have The Clapper installed. But to still get that awesome superhero feeling, it's a good thing we still have products out there like this Mathmos Airswitch TC lamp, which turns on, turns off, dims and brightens by a jedi-like wave of your hand. Video after the jump...

The great-looking Airswitch lamp uses Mathmos Airswitch technology to enable you to turn on/off and brighten/dim the light without fumbling around for a switch. The light uses a sensor to determine where your hand is in relation to it and adjusts the light accordingly. Move your hand vertically towards the light and it will dim, away and it will brighten, horizontally across the sensor beams and it will turn on/ off. Available from Red5.

we have the airswitch 1 style and use it as a bedside lamp; it looks quite nice in person. note that if you keep it in a corner or too near walls the dimming doesn't work quite right.

for more pictures & sources see at:chicago post from last year. also available direct from mathmos, from generate, and from many other shops.
