Showing Off Your Insides: The X-Ray Lamp

013009_rg_xraylamp_01.jpgThere is something really cool about x-rays. I don't really know exactly what it is, but the way that the colors contrast and the skulls and bones that are found on them are just plain intriguing. This is probably why I like this new lamp so much. It shows off your insides, without involving radiation. In a sense, it's more of a lampshade concept, but it really works well and it looks superb.

013009_rg_xraylamp_02.jpgThe X-Ray Lamp is designed by Sture Pallarp, who says that he can turn your x-rays into a lamp as well. The ambiance created by this type of lamp must be quite interesting. It's like having your own personal lightbox at home to check out some x-rays. Even so, I find that having them turned into a lamp is even more elegant. This lamp is a little different than Wonksuk Cho's. It's less of an installation and more of an everyday lamp.

The one great thing is that if you have some x-rays laying around, you might be able to turn them into a lampshade all by yourself. All you have to do is find the right lamp to work one. we recommend a nice bright one, probably one that uses multiple LEDs. Naturally, this technique could work on any lamp you have at home as well. The main idea is to structure the lampshade around the lamp in a sleek manner. [via DesignZen, photos by Sture Pallarp]

Most excellent. I'd like to see these en masse at a nightclub.
Or in a cheeky doctor's waiting room - where lighting is often dismal.
