A 12-Year-Old's Sophisticated Workspace

Envy fuels ambition. But we're feeling a little let down by the fact that our own 20-something's humble workspace pales in comparison to the desk in this pic—the desk of a pre-teen Web designer...

Most kids are still begging their parents for their own computer at 12, but Brandon Wang has an HP computer, Kensington Slim Type keyboard, Logitech MX wireless mouse, Harmon/Kardon 2.1 speaker set, a 24-inch SyncMaster P2570 screen and an Upek Eikon fingerprint reader.

Featured on Lifehacker, this workspace trumps many other spaces we've seen—even adult ones—by combining awesome tech with gorgeous lighting. He says all the lighting features cost less than $50. Mainly because he used IKEA's Dioder LED strips (two behind the monitor and one under the desk for keyboard lighting).

Pretty great and creative stuff coming from a kid who taught himself HTML at 8 years old and CSS at age 10, huh?

Some nice ideas, but I don't understand the author's surprise that a particular twelve-year old has better taste than many adults. Some people simply have better taste than others. While we may gain some curatorial perspective as we age, I think it's safe to say that many pre-teens have better taste than many adults. Many adults also have better taste than many pre-teens.

I have got to agree, I really don't see anything special about this, when I was his age, I had just as good of a setup if not better. I may have been more lucky than other children my age but then it was my passion that I was interested in, like him.

i think it's tragic that this 12 year old is spending his youth in a dark room in front of a massive computer screen. someone enroll that kid in the scouts and get his some fresh air.
