Chair from an Old TV?

092209_tf_tvchair.jpgWhy go 'out with the old,' like the old saying says? You could just take the old, knock its screen out and add some shag carpeting... now you've stuck with the old, turning it into something new that looks old. Whoa.

We've seen vintage TVs turned into storage units and even aquariums to house our scaly friends, but we've never seen such a shag-a-licious chair like this before!

092209_tf_porterbook1.jpgIt's an image from the 1986 architecture book "Freestyle: The New Architecture and Design from Los Angeles" by Tim Street-Porter (click here to check the book out on Amazon).

No idea the origins of this crazy idea, although we've got to say it seems like a custom, DIY bit and not a manufactured design. But we just love how it shows us that the cool vintage look of old appliances in our homes don't have to diessappear completely, even though we mostly favor black and sleek designs now.

That image is sort of double-retro now: the adapted chair is done in a sort of Pee-Wee Herman/Fifties/L.A. funky style, but it's been 23 years since the book came out, so you could look at it and see the 80s as well as or instead of the 50s look they were emulating.
