DISH Network Sending Out Updated Smart Cards

dishnetworkVip222.jpgInteresting, we just noticed after sitting through a small earthquake just now that the DISH Network left us a phone message about sending all their customers new smart cards to replace the ones in their current satellite receiver systems. Our VIP 211 model doesn't have a smart card inserted into it's front panel slot currently, but we're interested to hear back from any other DISH Network subscribers about their switch out experience. We're wondering if any new features are being added (or taken away) with the update...

Yeah. We got this mailing, and inserted the smart card into two virgin units: a 611, and a 211.

Guess what? We no longer have service.

The VIP 211 unit got the "smart" card--where it didn't have one before--and promptly stopped working. For a $15 shipping fee, Dish sent a replacement, and IT refused to activate.

Since the replacement was a reconditioned unit, I got on the phone and demanded a NEW unit. Seeing as how that is what the Indian phone rep promised me, right?

So now the VIP 611 isn't working properly: it won't display captions any longer. As I'm hard of hearing and MUST have captions, the result of the smart card changeover?

One DEAD unit, one crippled unit, and two weeks of no service.

I am SO not impressed.
