Exploding Gadgets Remind Us To Check Our Models

022709_tf_mac01.jpgYikes! What a disaster! This Mac PowerBook exploded recently in a London marketing office, apparently filling this tiny cubicle with smoke and sparks. There's still no word on whether or not the laptop in question was a part of the PowerBook G4 Battery Recall and had yet to have it's battery replaced; but in any case, random gadgets erupting in a blaze of glory is a good reminder to keep up on your model. Oh, and there's gratuitous laptop carnage under the jump. That's what you came for, isn't it?

We here at Unplggd have let you know before to Google your products' model and serial numbers before. If you're having problems with your gadget, there's a slim chance others might be having the same issues and that the product might have even been recalled.

Even if you're not having trouble, you might want to make it a point to occasionally (maybe once every two or three months) Google the models of your biggest investments (computer, HDTV, iPod, smartphone) to keep on top of any new updates.

It's a good idea to maybe save a buck on replacing a broken DVD player, like the couple in our post did, or to save yourself from this:

Scary. Instead of searching for your gadget's model and serial number every few months why not set up a Google alert (http://www.google.com/alerts)? Then if something does come up you'll know right away and won't have to think about it. Thanks AT
