Look! Industrial Metal Table Has Second Life as Media Console

022409_sz_tvstand.jpg As we've seen, there are many ways to watch TV. Buying a bonafide TV console isn't your only option. Rather, you can turn almost anything -- sideboard, public school desk, or in this case, a steel table into a media center...

022409_sz_tvstand2.jpg The above table lives in the east coast home of photographer Lori Spears and her boyfriend, journalist extraordinaire, A.C. Thompson (read his amazing investigative piece on New Orleans post-Katrina race issues in The Nation). A.C. had nabbed the table when Mission Records, in San Francisco, went out of business. The rusty relic was covered in graffiti, gum, and stickers, which A.C. painstakingly scraped and buffed off.

Now, rather than housing crates of 12- and 7-inches, it holds their CRT, Xbox, DVR, DVD player, and as if in ode to its humble beginnings, a turntable, some records, and graphic novels.

What do you have your entertainment center sitting on?
