It's official. We're in love. Please welcome our soul mate, the Fractured Fairy Tale.

Made by designer Thomas Wold, the piece is a wall unit made for his client in order to house their A/V equipment and books. "We wanted to grab the entire wall with a graphical design," Wold writes on his blog. "I suggested a design encompassing a series of separate boxes that would stack on top of each other so one could use the negative and positive for storage."

Now, not only is this unit heart palpitatingly good to look at, it's all eco conscious. "All the drawers and fronts were found on the street. Living in a college town, lots of furniture turns up so it seemed when I needed to find drawers, I'd see castaway dressers everywhere. About 80% of the material to build the boxes was made from 'drop' or left over material from my shop."

The door on the lower cabinet, which holds stereo equipment, along with the scalloped framing on some of the cubes were laser cut.

Drawers hide away CDs.

Of course, this specific design doesn't work if you're a true A/V nerd (where are the speakers, the TV, the DVD player?) but just imagine what Wold could dream up for your nerdy system!

I'm curious about the structure; it doesn't seem so, but is this is a self-standing unit or are the separate pieces mounted to the wall? (i'm picturing many holes in the wall)

According to Wold they're both attached to each other and drilled in the wall in order to make sure it's stable.

The plans show where the flat screen goes, and you can see a DVD player and something (receiver?) peeking out of one of the bottom cabinets.

Oh and I love all his work. It's just supercool.

WOW!!! I'm going to try this t home. I think I can do it. Also, I think attaching pieces to the wall is a great idea. Especially for apartments with little wall space. The next time I see drawer. I'm picking it up!

This reminds me of a Louise Nevelson wall sculpture, except that it's not black. And it's deeper. And you can use it.
