apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Look! White Is the New Black

092408_sz_whitetv.jpg Oooh how we love white electronics. We're not sure if it started with the iBook or with Woody Allen's Sleeper, but there's something about a room filled with shiny white things that just makes us feel modern. After the break we take a look at Haus Maus blogger Holly's new place in Germany and all the beautiful white gizmos and furniture she's found...

Audioline makes phones here in the states, but this lovely white number seems to only be available in Europe. Does anyone know if European phones can be imported and used here in the states or are there compatibility issues (other than with the power adapter).

Holly's region-free DVD player and PSP are both white as well.

The 32" Samsung LCD sits on Ikea's Besta Burs in high gloss white.

And the beautiful lamp is from Dutch shop, Le Souk.

We're in love, love, love. Photos: Holly @ Haus Maus

I have that TV. Don't buy it if you don't want to see the small reflective line at the top of the screen caused by the GLOSSY WHITE FINISH...

very annoying when the rest of the lights in the room are turned off. the reflective line looks like there is a glitch in the screen... If they make it in a flat white, that should solve the problem.

Love the design. My apartment is striving for that! I love the cleanliness of the white.

Good tips about the TV. I want a white one to replace my 10 year old CRT, but I have not found one with the design/features for the cost that seems acceptable. Some of the Sony's come close though. Any one know other brands that make white TVs for the living room?

I've never noticed a reflective white line - why did you have to tell me because now every single time I flick on television I'm going to be looking for it! :)

But no seriously, I don't have this problem at all so I'm not sure. I'm guessing though that you could always cut a very thin strip of white matte sticky vinyl (wall decals are made from it) and adhere it to the top of the inside of the screen (you wouldn't really see it) and perhaps that would alleviate the problem?

In regards to the TV itself, I want to mention something no one has brought up but just a word to the wise: the sound quality isn't super (like most televisions I guess) so you may want to buy speakers and such... We have surround now thanks to my techno-husband so it is pretty much like a theater in here now. Just ask our neighbors and I'm sure they'd tell ya!

The elephant tray is a new IKEA find. Scoop 'em up while you can. They sold out in a store over here but I'm sure more will roll off the assembly line again soon...

Sonia - No you cannot import telephones from here because of connectors and power requirements. But do some research and don't take my word as gospel. I asked my German husband though and he said no.

Holly--You're correct about European telephones, but the same does not apply for Canadian telephones and one similar to the Audioline is manufactured by Sanyo for sale in Canada:
