Apartment Therapy Unplugged | Med School Student Scans Gadgets with a CT Scanner

Yeah, a third-year medical student at Weill Cornell Medical College would normally use a CT scanner to create images of brains and knees, looking for blood clots or fractures. But not when the med school student in question used to be an art professor at the School of Visual Arts. Instead, he gets busy using the CT scanner to create wild images of Chicken McNuggets, Barbies and —yes!—a few gadgets.

The scanner produces 200 to 500 image slices when an object is scanned. The artist/doctor, Satre Stuelke, then loads this data into a computer program that allows him to assign different colors to areas of different density. The result is a wild and colorful picture of the inner workings of an iPhone, an electric shaver, a MacBook, an old school iBook and so much more.
